I just finished a Seattle to Eugene book tour by bike. I cycled 420 miles and did 7 readings in 8 days. Overall, the trip was great, though I was a bit underwhelmed by the numbers of book reading attendees in most places, with the exception of Olympia and Longview. Who would have guessed that Longview, WA population less than 30,000 would have twice as many people attend as in Portland, Or, bike capital of the United States? Answer: when publicity is awesome, so are the crowds. This is something I need to work on more.
The book was well received by everyone. Highlights were the movie maker who wants to make a movie of the trip, the Eugene slide show that was powered by 2 guys pedaling generators, and the SRO crowd in Olympia that treated me as a returning war hero.
